Welcome Spring
We are as excited as you are to prepare for all of the activity ready to happen in our own yards
and patios that's why we're having our Spring Kickoff Sale! Get ready for the birds by inspecting all birdhouses for snugness from the elements,
cleanliness, and protection from predators. Make sure to implement proper cleaning schedules of
all feeders and bird-baths. We recommend cleaning feeders and birdbaths each time you fill them.
More companies are designing easier to clean feeders that have removable tops and bottoms.
Birdbaths can be kept clean-er and safer by adding a water wiggler or mini cascading waterfall
with a pump.
-
Tip: Soap the roof of your bird-house with an unscented soap to ward off yellow jackets.
Set out the nesting materials - QUICK! Birds will be frantically searching for a home and will be
fabricating nests. Nest-ing material containers can be purchased and hung in an open area that is
protected from the elements. You can refill your con-tainer with store bought materials or come up
with clever ideas of your own.
-
Tip: Dog hair, dried grasses, and string are great nesting materials. Make sure
string is cut into strands no longer than five inches or the birds are at risk to becoming tangled.
Prepare for the gardening season by re-moving any remaining leaves or debris in your perennial
flowerbeds. This will make returning plants easier to spot when they break the ground surface.
For quick spring color plant pansies and primrose. These plants can withstand the frost and can
last well into summer if planted in a cool place with morning sun. Be sure to remove any spent
flowers all the way back to the base to promote continuous blooming.
-
Tip: Every time you water a potted plant; nutrients are stripped from the soil. Make
sure to replenish the soil with a food that matches the needs of your plant.
Bird & Barrow wishes you a happy and healthy spring. We appreciate your business and will always
guide you to the best birding and gardening supplies as well as gifts for the backyard and nature
enthusiast. Happy Birding and Blooming!
